TUSTIN, Calif., July 29, 2025 – Specright, the leader in Specification Management software, announced today an expanded collaboration with Clemson University’s Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Sciences. This collaboration represents a shared commitment to equipping the next generation of packaging professionals with hands-on experience using the latest in specification and data management technology.
As part of this collaboration, Specright has donated nearly half a million dollars in commitments, including access to its industry-leading Specification Data ManagementTM (SDM) platform. The donation also includes access to additional industry-leading tools such as online packaging testing platform Packsight (a co-developed tool with ISTA) and full access to Spec Academy, Specright’s training and certification platform.
These tools will be integrated into key courses within Clemson’s packaging curriculum and give students deeper insights and skills critical to the industry today. Through this collaboration, students will gain practical experience with Specright’s patented SDM platform and related tools, preparing them to make an immediate impact in the workforce upon graduation.
The collaboration also supports Clemson’s focus on sustainable packaging education. Through integration with COMPASS by Trayak, students will be able to perform real-time life cycle analysis (LCA) and assess the environmental impact of packaging solutions, directly connecting coursework to broader sustainability goals.
In addition to the classroom integration, Specright’s donation also includes support for advancing Clemson’s Package Prototyping Lab, engagement with alumni at Pack Expo International in September, and working closely with University staff to develop shared content and event opportunities that highlight innovation in packaging education.
“Today’s packaging challenges require a data-driven mindset and a new generation of talent that can hit the ground running to transform the industry,” said Matthew Wright, Founder and Executive Chairman of Specright. “We’re excited to continue working with Clemson to empower students with the best tools and training they need to lead the future of sustainable packaging and supply chain innovation.”
Greg Batt, Professor at Clemson University, echoed this enthusiasm. “Specright is one of those companies that really gets it. Evolution of the way an organization does what it does is often from the ground up, not top down. It is the young talent that they bring in that is trained in the latest tools and techniques that can move the needle on advancing the way the company operates. Specright’s investment in university students is a testament to their passion for educating the change makers.”
This initiative is part of Specright’s broader commitment to the leading academia programs for packaging and its continued investment in preparing students to thrive in a data-led, sustainability-focused packaging landscape.
